Growing in Empathy

January 23, 2021, Newsletter Volume #4

Greetings, Readers and Writers,

We hope you are doing well as you navigate through this new year. We’ve enjoyed reviewing submissions this week and publishing a diverse set of articles — from relationships to chakra healing to writing to recovery to equality, and more — We think you’ll find something that speaks to you, tugs at your heartstrings, and makes you think.

Aimée has written another article which appears in Feedium to help writers new to Medium navigate the platform: Medium Etiquette Guide for Beginners. It’d be great if you’d give it a read. We are linking this in the Age of Empathy “Style Guide” along with the others so you can have them readily available for reference. We hope they help.

As Age of Empathy grows, we are beginning to be referenced in articles on the platform. We’d like to thank AoE contributor Stephanie Thurrott for including us in her fantastic guide: How To Format Articles for 26 Medium Publications. We recommend bookmarking this!

The January writing prompt instructions for “What’s Your Spark?” are listed here. Time is running out for this prompt. Please consider submitting a personal essay, poem or both by January 31st. We look forward to reviewing your submissions.

Please continue to support Suntonu Bhadra’s fabulous publication Paper Poetry. The following links lead you to Suntonu’s handpicked poems to share with AoE. Enjoy!

reMarkable — In Many Ways by Dennett (poem + essay)

Does this count as paper?
My reMarkable tablet that lets me write like this?
Like paper?
Am I cheating?
It feels better than paper —
it feels, well, remarkable!
No, not a commercial —
just reveling in my new toy which is

The World Before Us by Maryjo Bautista (poem + essay)

The world before us is full of letters and postcards
an embodiment of love and warm regards
scribbles and scrawls — I wish you were here
the depths of emotions were all crystal clear

Scents of Seasons by Era Garg (Poem)

Seasons are akin to fragrances, unfolding subtle layers of top note, middle note and base note. Departure of a season leaves behind its own fragrance trail.

We hope you have a fantastic week! Happy reading and writing. ❤

Highlights from this week include: How a Little Wooden Heart Taught Me to Open Mine by David Sales, How I Dream of a Safe, Blissful Return to Easy Life by Sarah Paris, When She Left Me for a Woman by Christopher Robin, and Please Don’t Ask by Evamarie Augustine.

In Gratitude,
Aimée, Shanna, and Bingz, Editorial Team
