Once again, America’s presidential election concluded, leaving a wake of emotional upheaval. The campaign season waves continue to slam against the shores with merciless pounding.

Politics were noticeably absent from our morning school bus stop chatter. It helped that the town crier never showed up. Stilted words and inane classroom activity updates filled the sidewalk.

Avoidance.

The faces wore lines from both camps. Knitted brows showed strain. Corners of mouths rose from others to reveal satisfaction. Respect for both sides prevailed.

No acknowledgments were made of the evening tallies.

I was proud of the decorum displayed. Perhaps the saving grace was the presence of children.

Peace didn’t last long. Rumblings ignited as the bus tail lights faded away in the distance.

No overwhelming surprise revelations were made as we strolled to our homes. Troubling spewing began, expected from the also-ran supporters but not anticipated from the winners. The whole transformation of our little group within minutes took me off-guard.
