A woman and a small child in darkness — domestic violence

I helped a woman and her two small children escape an abusive relationship. Her spouse still does not know I existed.

I was traveling from Chicago back to Tampa. The young woman sitting next to me in the terminal had a toddler and an arm baby. The two-year-old was being a two-year-old — a pain in the ass. He was running, crying, falling on the floor, kicking, and being a loud, tired toddler.

Every adult in the area was miserable. This lasted for 20 minutes before I quietly asked her if I could give him an individually wrapped lifesaver. She opened the little candy and made him sit down to receive it. He sat down and wrapped his lips around the candy. She asked if I would hold the baby. She could control him better as she had his snacks in her bag.

I took the baby. She corralled the toddler and sat him down with a book, juice box, and animal cookies. He sat nicely until we boarded.

I helped her board and get settled on the plane.

After we boarded the plane, the little boy started up again. I was in front of Economy, and she and her children were in Economy Plus. I was sitting four or five rows behind them.
