“I thank fate for having made me born poor. Poverty taught me the true value of the gifts useful to life.”

Chido Govera, orphaned at seven, and left to care for her blind grandmother and brother, went on to become one of the world’s most admired activists, travelling the world to enable others in poverty, to turn their lives around.

Of course, there was a rather large bit of her life in between poverty, and mission.

Let’s first look at what being an activist entails.

Activism, ‘a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue.’

Activists believe strongly in social change and stridently work to effect that change.

  • Activists build new models.
  • Activists work tirelessly to out with the old.
  • Activists don’t see the river as unclean. Instead, they clean the river.
