Book Review — Roasted
A Steamy Romance from Samhain to Yule by B.E. Wolf
With Halloween only a few short weeks away, it seemed like the perfect time for this book. The title says it all, but this book takes you from Samhain to Yule with all the holidays in between. And I can’t possibly be the only one in full holiday mode right about now. So, let’s get into it…
Roasted is the type of book you ache for. It is one of those reads where from the moment you pick it up, nobody and nothing else matters. There is nothing but you and the story.
Be kind to me because this review is going to be all over the place because I am still riding the high this book has left me with. Holly is the girl of my dreams, while Joseph is also the man of my dreams. It seems I’ve found myself in quite the conundrum, haven’t I?
In all seriousness, though, the first thing I want to take note of is the way B.E. Wolf handled consent, boundaries, safe words, and made sure not only Holly was safe but so was Joseph. Too often in books with spice, they never even touch on the man’s boundaries, much less what he needs to actually feel safe.
Which leads me into the trauma. This one got me. Holly’s story is heartbreaking and her growth from the beginning pages to the end of this story is nothing less than beautiful. She’s lost faith in her partners because of a toxic ex, but the trust she places with Joseph was not only recognized but it was praised. And then Joseph, my gods… his heart was so beautiful and in all the right places, but he was not afraid to say what he needed to keep his heart guarded for the time being.
And then Ebony!!! B.E. Wolf might have written my favorite bestie in a book, ever. Hers and Holly’s relationship really was ride or die, and she was going to do whatever needed to be done to keep her bestie safe.
And now the fun bits! Did I mention consent? Consent is sexy. Do not fight me on this. You will lose. This book, while emotional, was also chalked full of spice. I don’t even mean the actual act of what happens when spicy time occurs, I mean, the buildup was sexy. Yes, you read that right. They put boundaries into play that they… mostly stuck to (giggles), but this slow burn still had enough heat to keep the fire going well after Yule was over.
B.E. Wolf did me so good with Barista that I am itching to get my hands on more of his work. I am also keeping my chubby little fingers crossed in hopes we will get a book two, maybe with our pixie-colored hair bestie, Ebony.
