That is the question AdExchanger tries to answer today through a round-up story with insights from various industry experts, including PMG’s Carly Carson.

Earlier this week, Facebook launched the latest products in its Portal hardware suite, including TV streaming sticks, an 8-inch Portal, and an improved 10-inch model). The products go a long way to help Facebook fill out its product lineup, but its launch is certainly belated compared to existing devices that have already been available (and widely adopted) by consumers.

In the article, Carson said, “There’s already a saturation of connected TV devices, Google Homes, Alexa devices, Smart TVs, iPhones, iPads. These devices have already made their way into the living room as well.” She added, “We don’t believe that Facebook’s Portal has enough of a differentiator to be additive to a home’s current digital ecosystem. High-quality video calling with WhatsApp is an interesting selling point, however, that video calling functionality can be currently found in many other devices — including Smart TVs.”

Carson shared more in the article about how the products will fare when factoring in Facebook’s third rail these days, data and privacy. Read the article for more.
