Man’s Best Friend
Her sons and her daughter in-laws, turn against her
Love becomes hate, now and or forever
Some sons and some daughters in- laws are ungrateful
They become traitors even to their mothers’ graves
Yet their affluence may never last forever
And worse still they may lose all their friends
But there is only one good friend, who will be there forever
An unselfish friend that never proves ungrateful
A man’s dog that stands by him always
In times of good health and in sickness
He will sleep anywhere with you, need be.
He will kiss you with the tenderness of a lover
The way mothers do to their dying daughters
When all friends desert, he guards his pauper master
The way a queen does to a prince or princes
After all a queen is a mother like any other mother.
What would you give me brothers and sisters?
That a wife can’t find worthwhile to give me.
I would ask you to give me a dog
For when I die he will be there by my graveside
His eyes alert but faithful and true
For most dogs are more faithful to their masters
Than some sons and some daughters to their mothers and fathers.
