Parallax Scrolling — Making it work for your site

On the late blog post, we featured Parallax Scrolling.
So you decided to use Parallax Scrolling.
How can you make a success of it?

1) Objective

Not every website needs Parallax Scrolling.
One question ot ask yourself: What is your business model? Do you intend to build promotional websites such as online campaigns, portfolios or advertising. Instead of traditional product gallery, would you like to add interactive navigation can lend some dynamics to an otherwise dull and boring experience. Then Parallax Scrolling is for you.

Solution?
Consider telling a story. You could employ storytelling to increase the engagement on your site by telling a story that your users would like to pursue or interact with. This technique is probably best-suited to promotional landing pages rather than content-heavy websites.

2) Quick Page Loading Time
When a page takes ages to load due to its high load for animation, they may require a loading or a splash page to keep their visitors entertained. If that’s the case, the design will need improvement. Unless your users have good and stable internet connection, they will be put off of the long waiting time, even though the design and flow is awesome.

Solution?
Instead of relying Parallax Scrolling, building a quick & heavily-optimized responsive website will draw better users experience

3) User Experience

- Controls
One drawback of the Parallax Scrolling’s navigation is the navigation controls are very subtle.
They’d like to feature the animations, thus they employ litlle dots on the right side as navigation.
In fact, on many sites which use this technique, the strong emphases are on the rich, detailed illustrations which make it a bit more challenging to actually find the navigation.

This makes the Call-to-action difficult.

Solution?
A) Use clear labels. Simple image cues aren’t always enough to guide users, and animated clues might not be perceived as navigational elements.

B)Use appropriate descriptions to clarify when necessary. Not every engaging navigation paradigm is self-explanatory; sometimes a little explanation or introduction to the technique may be of greater help to the users of the site. Do not exaggerate and do not overcomplicate things, though. The experience should be smooth and simple.

C) Consistency is crucial. Even completely avante garde navigation can work well when key elements are always accessible, allowing the user to permanently have an overview as well as a sort of life buoy.
