Being a programmer is not just about coding. It’s not even just about working. It’s a way of life: always grasping every opportunity to learn something new, share it with a community and become better.

Of course, being a programmer also means being able to laugh at the difficulties of the profession. Because, as we all know, there are obstacles that we all share and have to overcome plenty of times. Why not turn these obstacles into something funny though?

That’s what we thought and that’s why we searched for the funniest quotes only programmers will get.

“When I wrote this code, only God and I understood what I did. Now only God knows.”

“A son asked his father (a programmer) why the sun rises in the east, and sets in the west. His response? It works, don’t touch!”

“Programming can be fun, and so can cryptography; however, they should not be combined.”

“Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.”

“Software and cathedrals are much the same — first we build them, then we pray.”

“There are two ways to write error-free programs; only the third works.”

“99 little bugs in the code. 99 little bugs in the code. Take one down, patch it around. 127 little bugs in the code …”

“A good programmer is someone who always looks both ways before crossing a one-way street.”

“In a room full of top software designers, if two agree on the same thing, that’s a majority.”

“One: Demonstrations always crash. And two: The probability of them crashing goes up exponentially with the number of people watching.”

“Most of you are familiar with the virtues of a programmer. There are three, of course: laziness, impatience, and hubris.”

“Software undergoes beta testing shortly before it’s released. Beta is Latin for still doesn’t work.”

“There are only two kinds of programming languages out there. The ones people complain about and the ones no one uses.”

“One of the main causes of the fall of the Roman Empire was that lacking zero, they had no way to indicate successful termination of their C programs.”

“What’s the object-oriented way to get wealthy? Inheritance.”

“Some people when confronted with a problem think, “I know, I’ll use regular expressions.” Now they have two problems.”

“There are only two hard things in computer science: cache invalidation and naming things.”

“.NET is called .NET so that it wouldn’t show up in a UNIX directory listing.”

“There is an easy way and a hard way. The hard part is finding the easy way.”

“The best way to get accurate information on Usenet is to post something wrong and wait for corrections.”

We love programming in all its forms and we do love a good joke. What’s most important here is that we know how essential it is to be a part of a community and contribute one way or another to the common well-being. And of course, how important it is to feel good and laugh often whatever troubles are going on. But if we know one thing best, that is programming.

How do you feel about programming? Do you want to join a company, where your well-being is the most important thing, along with coding?
