Python has already been with us for 30 years. Still, in 2020 it was the language that grew about 50% and it is expected to rank up further in 2021. Now, we are talking about one of the most in-demand languages in the world. More popular than ever, it is understandable why many developers choose Python for performing various “modern” tasks like machine learning, as it is supported by its numerous libraries as well. Let’s take a look at the 5 hottest Python trends for 2021.

  1. Machine Learning

Flexible, highly adaptable, and dynamic, Python is used more and more in Machine Learning projects, and of course AI projects. Python-based libraries like Tensorflow, Pytorch, Scikit, Matplotlib, Pandas and NumPy provide a strong foundation to build data processing pipelines, implement statistics and machine learning algorithms and advanced visualizations to support the full development lifecycle. It’s no wonder that Python is there to stay and gain even more leverage in this field in 2021.

2. Game Development

It’s no secret that major games like “The Sims”, and “Battlefield” were partly developed using Python. Because, when it comes to code readability, and can be easily embedded on top of C/C++ codebases Python is used a lot as the ideal tool to create worlds, stages, characters and gameplay on top of state-of-the-art C/C++ gaming and graphics engines. Its third party libraries and huge number of built-ins make it easy to understand why Python is very popular in the game development community.

3. Embedded Applications

At this point in time, Python is the fastest-growing language for embedded computing, while C remains of course the leader. But, it is believed that Python will gradually gain a bigger part of the embedded programming world. Lots of embedding programming platforms provide libraries in Python to program microcontrollers, cameras, touch-screens and other components to build DIY smart solutions. Python’s libraries and tools will continue to ease the path for developers.

4. Business Applications

Business applications are not just your typical apps. They must be readable, scalable, and extensible to exist in domains such as e-commerce, ERP and many more. Python can easily offer all these features and more, with libraries like Tryton that provide a space for such applications to be created.

5. Web Development

Python can be used to make web-applications really fast, mainly due to the frameworks it uses. It’s no mere luck that platforms like Microsoft, Facebook, and Google use Python as their programming language. Picking a language of a framework for web development also means deciding how responsive it will be. This is exactly why Python is becoming the language of choice for more and more developers.

Python is not the “new kid”, still it manages to stay one of the most interesting ones that will definitely show even more growth in 2021. Are you a Python developer, looking for your next challenge? Check out our openings here.
