I recently uncovered an inconvenient truth — that just about anyone (see Infinite Monkey Theorem 😉) can cobble up a product roadmap that is plastered with features but delivers only mediocre outcomes for both users and the company.

On the other hand, an inspiring product roadmap is hard to come by because it is extremely difficult to come up with one that

  • ties back to a compelling vision
  • reflects a coherent strategy that can be effectively and efficiently executed to meet business goals,
  • and creates a safe space for learning & failures.

And as with difficult things, there are huge rewards waiting for those audacious enough to put in the hard work. In this case, an inspiring product roadmap will inspire higher morale and enable autonomy, the ingredients that are absolutely necessary for 10x outcomes and ground-breaking innovation if one gets lucky enough.
