Navigating the AI Horizon: Project Management Meets Machine Minds

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the world of project management, offering new opportunities and challenges for project managers and project management professionals. But how much do we know about the current state of AI adoption and its impact on the project management profession? How do project managers perceive and prepare for the changes brought by AI? And what are the best practices and lessons learned from implementing AI solutions in projects?

To answer these questions, 27 PMI Chapters around the world, conducted a global survey in 2023, collecting responses from over 2,300 project managers and project management professionals across various industries and regions. The survey aimed to assess the knowledge, experience, and openness of the project management community to use AI as a tool in project management, as well as the challenges and benefits of AI implementation. Here are 10 key insights from the report:

  1. AI Adoption Is on the Rise: Despite initial skepticism, project managers are increasingly embracing AI technologies. Over 70% of respondents expressed interest in integrating AI into their project management practices.
  2. Enhanced Decision-Making: AI augments decision-making processes by analyzing vast amounts of data and providing actionable insights. 78% of project managers reported improved decision quality when using AI-driven recommendations.
