Team Teams! Fundamental Ability Part 1
Establishing business agility is about building/uplifting the abilities that will enable the organization to adapt to the change quickly and thrive in the uncertain and turbulent world. Although different organizations will need varied abilities, there are some fundamental ones that all organizations should have. I will share my thoughts about them in a series of articles starting from this one: Team Teams!
We talk about the team all the time during work, like the project team, dev team, ops team, etc. But what makes a team a real team rather than a group of people that come together?
In a discussion with one team I worked with before, they realised that they were not a real team. Even though they were working together, each individual had been assigned to multiple projects and just completed the tasks related to their role. There was no sense of team identity and shared responsibilities. In contrast, a real team should be like a sports team (e.g. a basketball team or a soccer team),
- The team’s goal is clear and each member is committed to achieving it — “To win the championship!”
- Each team member 100% belongs to this team — “I play for Golden State Warrior!”
- They stay together as a team for years to build team chemistry!
- They train as a team and…
