Student-Made Commercial About Aging Went Viral — Was Turned Down By Adidas!
How did Adidas not realize how people would respond to this ad?
Inspired by his recently deceased relative, a young German student Eugen Merher made this touching tribute. It’s a story about an aging runner, constrained to living inside a retirement home, longing to put on his running shoes and break free from it all for one last run.
When student Merher created his Adidas spec ad “Break Free,” he knew he had something special on his hands. Unfortunately, Adidas’ communications department never got back to him; now they get to watch his beautifully-crafted ad take off without them.
The commercial tells the story of a former marathon runner stuck living in a strict retirement home. The older man is clearly fed up with his life and wants to return to the outside world. After several attempts to break out of the home, he has his sneakers confiscated and believes his chances of leaving are ruined.
Luckily, his fellow residents at the retirement home were able to come up with a plan. Together they were able to get his sneakers back, giving the man a chance to run outside once again.
