Last Fall Xiaomi sent out an update which introduced the capability to use the speaker for Wi-Fi calling purposes using the internet-based calling service Agora. With this new audio improvement update, those who own the Mi AI smart speaker should be able to use the device more for things like listening to music, which usually benefits from having better quality audio.

Unlike similar products like the Google Home or Amazon Echo smart speakers which require a connected smartphone to take advantage of voice calling over cellular networks, the Xiaomi Mi AI will provide Internet voice calling through Agora’s platform, thus eliminating the need for a handset to be synced with the device.
