Agora, a blockchain-based voting ecosystem that enables anyone, anywhere to securely vote online from a digital device has announced a new partnership with Onfido. As part of the agreement, Agora users, if they wish to, will be identified through Onfido, which offers comprehensive insight into individual data, without disclosing or compromising this data that often is used to define one’s identity. This protects voter data and helps Agora in its mission of creating an immutable and publicly viewed record of the election on the blockchain.

Agora has chosen to work with Onfido based on their integrity and knowledge in these matters. We believe that the best way for an election technology provider to demonstrate their integrity in regards to data collection is to limit their access to data management. At Agora we anonymise and shuffle ballots but also choose not to deal directly with voters’ IDs. Agora is a company of strong principles and has ethical commitments to privacy and data protection.
