CES 2020, the largest technology exhibition held at Las Vegas, where brands break their cutting edge innovation saw its increased action on two things. Sex robots under wellness category, and Voice Assistants.

This blog is about the latter. too bad

But this blog is to summarise the progress in voice from a Google’s point of view. The ubiquitous Google Assistant.

Google had some interesting pointers to make. The keynote by Google Assistant’s Vice President Scott Huffman and Managing Director of partnerships Danny Bernstein summarised all things voice pretty succinctly:

Get things done, in virtual and real world

User adoption is spiked to 500 million users across 30 languages. India alone has 8 languages.

Google has invested in over 16 startups in Voice space under their Assistant Fund. Something we loved hearing!

Google has been investing in voice for over a decade and it shows.

incredible progress in voice recognition and processing.

After three years of Google Assistant being live, here are the key learning the shared

  1. Voice is about Action
Assistant works on Intent. Intents leads to actions.

2. Voice Demands conversations

the difference between GUI and VUI is the conversation

3. Voice drives daily routines

Habituated users will get more from voice in the future.

4. Voice is universal: inclusive, multilingual, and natural

India sees incredibly user adoption in Voice. The feature phones with Voice is how people navigate their device

What does Voice has in future? starting with 2020

Get your Google Action out to world. Invest some ad dollars to get traction on voice
  • Screens will change everything: Nearly half use voice and touch input. They will co-exist as multi modal. The experience on vocal domain, is however unique
  • You can start with you already built: Such as voice enabling your app and websites.
  • Discoverability will require investments: Once you build a Action on Google, it requires investment of ad dollar, linking to your website to Action, promoting on social media and more.
