Accra, September 2016. During our recent trip to Ghana, GreenTec Capital Partners signed an investment agreement partnering with the Ghanaian startup AgroCenta. Through this deal GreenTec Capital will support AgroCenta with funding, business development, and network access as an active partner.

AgroCenta focuses on very small, rural farmers by providing real-time pricing information, on-demand logistics services, and a sales platform for farmers to offer goods on the open market. Though their platform, small farmers can access markets across Ghana and realize fair-market prices for their crops, increasing their venues and improving their livelihoods. This way, AgroCenta helps small farmers improve their livelihoods by transitioning from subsistence farming to production farming. AgroCenta’s AgroInfo services provides pricing information via mobile app or SMS and AgroTrade allows farmers to offer their goods for sale online. AgroCenta also provides on-demand logistics through its TruckR service partnered with the national truckers union. Finally, farmers can reinvest their profits into purchasing agricultural inputs or hiring farm machinery. The company’s four core values are 1) Ensuring Sustainable Food Security; 2) Livelihood empowerment for smallholder farmers; 3) Job creation; 4) Accelerating growth in agriculture using technology and innovation

AgroCenta is currently working in 3 districts of Northern Ghana with more than 5,000 farmers enrolled.
