A Funny Little Test — Can You Tell Which Of These 12 Images Are AI?
A study by Bowling Green State University found people can’t tell AI art from human art, but there’s one surprising difference
Let me tell you a crazy story. One of the first times I wrote about AI, someone replied to ask why I used an AI image. Except, I didn’t.
Then the same thing happened — again and again.
Every time I wrote about AI, someone would ask why I used an AI image. Every time, I’d tell them it’s not AI, it’s artwork created by a digital artist who’s very vocal about not using AI, and I paid to license his images.
Here’s the one that got me.
I wrote another post about why people don’t disclose use of AI and got the same question — why did you use an AI image? Except this time, it wasn’t even digital art. It was a historical oil painting dating back to 1904.
An oil painting from 1904. People thought it was AI.
This is the world we live in.
People can’t tell the different between a hundred year old painting and art made by AI. As it turns out, we can’t identify AI generated images any better than we can tell AI generated text from human writing.
