Trump vs. Biden. East vs. West. Team Cap or Team Iron Man. We’re a species fraught with divisions.

Some of us with well-founded opinions and beliefs, while others, feeding the remnants of their evolutionary yearnings to be part of the tribe, believe what they must in order to fit in. And our latest division is clearly around AI.

The divisions in the AI revolution, however, are unlike those of the upcoming election or past summer blockbusters. What is it then that we’re divided over?

AI is a useful tool. Even the skeptics are guilty of using it. The divisions are, for the most part, about one aspect, is it actually intelligent?

Does AI deserve to be called intelligent? It really depends on how you frame the concept of intelligence. I’ve engaged with plenty of skeptics and enthusiasts alike.

After weighing in on arguments both for and against the technology, I find my own opinion swaying like a pendulum between yes and no.

I’ve had a lot to think about.
