AI for Hiring
AI as talent scout: Unorthodox hires and maybe lower pay
Interesting article in the NY Times on using AI to match workers to jobs and how startups like Eightfold.ai are using AI to unearth hidden candidates based on more than just CV data or job titles. The article also explores the concerns of using algorithms for hiring, the challenges that still exist around trying to accurately measure employee performance, and using that data to influence selection decisions.
Graph Databases
Daimler drives new HR insights with graph database technology
Daimler is using technology to help its HR team better understand its constantly changing corporate structure and reporting lines as the company moves to agile teams or ‘swarms’ to speed up decision-making and empower staff. A swarm is typically an interdisciplinary team, assembled temporarily to carry out a particular project and then disbanded.
However, working in this way has increased the importance of having up-to-date HR data on changing org structures and shifting reporting lines, so the HR team has deployed a graph database tool (from Neo4j) to provide real-time insights across the org on how people are working together.
AI Adoption
Why companies that wait to adopt AI may never catch up
HBR article discussing the fact that although a lot of companies have already adopted AI, there are many that are waiting for the technology to mature and for expertise in AI to become more widely available. They are planning to be “fast followers” — a strategy that has worked with most information technologies, but this article argues is a tactic that won’t work for AI, due to the need to tailor and configure the tool to your business.
