A Writer’s Odyssey: Mapping Midjourney’s Character Consistency Through My Articles in the Past 12 Months

My first article on character consistency Nov 2022 set out the basic method I still use now. See how things have changed.

The basic steps for character consistency are simple, but each model and update shifts the ground a little. Some aspects that worked well in V4 no longer do so in V6 and of course extraordinary advances have been made in some areas.

These are the basic steps.

  1. Create a character portrait on a white background
  2. Use this as part of prompt to create images with variations of expression
  3. Use these as part of prompt to create a variety of poses.
  4. Combine the character images with scene images
  5. Create a clear consistent style that carries the character and scenes.

I will expand on these basic steps as I go along. The attempts documented in my first few articles at the end of 2022 explored the possibilities of using these steps with the V4 model. There were many limitations and proposed approaches, ranging from the vaguely helpful to some insane suggestions.
