Have you ever thought what made us different from other known creatures in this universe(a "multiverse" by the way),it is that we humans are able to think and take better decisions to solve problems. This will make you wonder how we are able to think? Thinking and decision making are two highly powerful cognitive skills that develops and improve over time, inside the complex neural networks of our brain. What if we have something that thinks like us, acts smarter in real life situations, take complex decsions like us( or even better that us) and for that matter we have AI . Yes,the future is here…
Small steps make the way for big journeys in life, and here the AI club of our prestigious institution Government Engineering College Thrissur has started the journey to the future. Talking about the AI club, it is a newly formed group in the institution by Atul (Atul Nair) and Allwyn(Allwyn Sunil) with few of our AI enthusiast and young coding brains as its members. We are planing to continue its activities and make it available to all the students.
Being a first year computer science student in GEC, it’s a routine for me to try out everything that feels new and drags my attention. So as usual with some of my friends I went to their first workshop on ‘AI & ML’ on 14th of Nov ’18 organised at our department. All I knew was that, things are gonna be interesting . I went in to the class room sat in the first bench with my friend sitting aside and the laptops opened up in front. First session, on the theoretical basics were taken by Allwyn (EEE S3), it was quite interesting because he could explain us about how AI works in the primary levels.

“In normal cases we give the computer an input and the program so that the system works on the input data according to the instructions and gives us the output, but here in AI we give the machine an input and the desired output results(‘things differ in practical application’) and asks the computer to provide the program based on some of the learning data sets” he says.

How come that is possible?

In the second session we had Atul (CSE S5) talking to us about, how are we going to implement the same, practically. There we used the google colab to serve the purpose. Some of the basics in that were discussed with the help of the titanic data set. There we learned how we can incorporate mathematics in AI to solve problems in daily life (‘don’t forget to import pandas(Python_Pandas) and tensorflow(TensorFlow)’ :p). It is similar to teaching a small kid how to do things. Basically, AI can be considered as a new born child with no prior knowledge about the outside world which acquires knowledge and learn things with practice, like us.

Hoping for more interesting classes ,worksop and other fun activities…
