If we believe the trend papers, 2018 will be the year of AI — this is how we all could rock using artificial intelligence this year:

Customer service bot

The most common business use case of AI is the area of automation partially replacing your call centre using customer service bots. That makes sense and you should do so, but it doesn’t give you a large competitive advantage as many are talking about bots these days, your competitor most likely is getting customer service bots as well.

Honestly, AI goes way beyond customer service bots, the area of AI is huge. If we really want to take advantage of AI we need to look at its wide area. Here are some examples of AI use cases:

Making predictions

Wouldn’t you like to know the future? With AI’s predictive analytics and prescriptive analytics you could do so. Use cases are demand prediction, fraud prediction, prediction of the stock market, prediction of product failure and recommendation of proactive maintenance, prediction of success of content, and prediction of outcomes to speed up R&D.

Automation

AI can increase your efficiency by automating marketing, accounting, giving you or your customers a personal assistant.

Knowing the user

Another area of use cases of AI is personalisation. Use cases are product recommendations for your B2B and B2C customers. Personalised marketing through user segmentation and real time emotion and personality analysis.

Extraction of information from big data

Name anything you want to know — AI working with big data is most likely able to give you the answer.

Making things

AI is able to create things. Use cases are the writing of articles and stories, creating social media posts, writing code, creating graphic design, writing text summaries, creating music, a film trailer, even writing a film script.

Optimising complex systems

Use cases are the optimising of products, optimising the supply chain management, optimising the manufacturing process in real time, optimising the onboarding process, and optimising in-store product assortment.

Autonomy

Use cases are autonomous transport, autonomous systems like Internet of Things that learn, autonomous industry robots, autonomous robots like pet robots, an autonomous hedge fund.

AI-Design Sprint

Starting with the user to identify user needs, then answering those user needs with AI technology

If you want to consider all those AI use cases for your business then an AI-Design Sprint is the form to do so as a team. It comes at the early stage in the process of applying AI.

An AI-Design Sprint helps you not only see AI use cases that increase your efficiency by looking through your business perspective, but you’d look to AI through the user perspective, this way you develop AI solutions that change your business creating massive impact, building an AI-first business.

As you experience an AI-Design Sprint as a team you reach ownership of your developed AI strategy, you gain buy-in within your organisation.

What the hell is an AI-Design Sprint?

Jake Knapp, Head of Design at Google Ventures, developed the design sprint, a five-day process to answer critical business questions, usually used in digital product development, it’s based on Design Thinking. We compressed the five days to a half day with the help of an AI canvas we developed to be even faster, even more lean and agile — it’s a sprint. And our design sprint focuses on AI.

@ Rocket Labs Copenhagen
With Grupo Falabella

2017 was an incredible year — we launched the AI-Design Sprint at the Copenhagen Techfestival and the international festival The Conference in Malmø in September. Since then we’ve lead AI-Design Sprints with large organisations, like Grupo Falabella in Santiago Chile, and small ones, like early-stage startups at Copenhagen Startup Weekend. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, our heads are still close to exploding.

For 2018 we’re very much looking forward to give more businesses and teams the opportunity to participate in an AI-Design Sprint taking the first step using AI. It’s our combination of empathy and AI technology that improves business in a big way.

Have an awesome 2018 AI year

Looking forward to see you soon.
