Intel has unveiled its latest AI chip, the Gaudi 3, in a major move in the development of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing that is happening in the world at the moment. The competition in the market for AI chips is heating up as established players like Nvidia and newer entrants like Graphcore and Cerebras Systems are vying for a share of this fast-growing market.

Intel’s Gaudi 3 is its third-generation AI processor and enables increased performance in training and inferencing with respect to large AI models. According to the company, the Gaudi 3 achieves 40% higher performance per watt than its predecessor, Gaudi 2, making it a very efficient chip in the market of AI.

One of the prominent features of the Gaudi 3 is the support it gives to Intel’s Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) technology, enabling faster matrix multiplication and convolution operations, crucial in deep learning algorithms. Support is also added to it by the Gaudi 3 for various deep learning frameworks, which are helpful in simplifying and speeding up the development and deployment of AI applications.

The Gaudi 3 is a 7nm process technology chip that enables higher transistor density and lower power consumption, both of which lead to increased performance and efficiency. Its cores number up to…
