Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone Pro lines are distinct enough to warrant the premium price tag given to the Pro models, without diminishing the appeal of the base iPhone. However, the same AI integration into smartphones that will differentiate these lines threatens to blur those meticulously drawn lines, potentially disrupting Apple’s strategic planning for the upcoming iPhone 16 series. Recent launches, including Google’s Pixel 8 and its Pro variant and Samsung’s Galaxy S24 family, have heralded the advent of the “AI-first” smartphone, favoring AI capabilities above all else. These launches have only highlighted the fact that Apple seems to be late to the AI party, given the iPhone 15 series’ release just prior to this trend gaining traction.
