My AI Saturdays (Lagos) Journey -Week 13

Week 13, another weekend filled with fun, friendship & AI. When the date for DevFest Lagos was annouced, I was caught in a dilemma of choosing between AI6 meetup and DevFest Lagos. I even told myself that skipping a Saturday of AI won't hurt and I can always catch up.

Few days later, to my surprise, our favourite uncle, Aniedi Udo-Obong , did his magic and the whole AI6 family was invited by google.

The most exciting part was when Joseph Dibor, Dean, School of AI Lagos, which I am also a member of, posted on the facebook group that School of AI , will be hosting its first meet up at the same venue.

Met the dean, Joseph dibor, for the first time and I had to famz him a little. School of AI seems like the kind of distraction I need, away from all the math and codelab sessions, and more on the use cases of AI.

He spoke about the objectives of School of AI and what the community plans to achieve moving forward. He also introduced us to Dialogflow.

Dialogflow is a Google-owned developer of human–computer interaction technologies based on natural language conversations. The company is best known for creating the Assistant, a virtual buddy for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone smartphones that performs tasks and answers users’ question in a natural language. — wiki

It was a fun session and it ended with a group photo.

Few minutes later, the AI Saturdays light bulb was switched on and it was time for another theory and codelab session.

Lawrence’ colab session

Lawrence took us through a collab session of anomaly detection and recommender systems while George took us through large scale machine — learnig with large datasets,Stochastic gradient descent, mini batch gradient descent etc.

George’s Session

We also had a session with Sara Hooker called Going beyond accuracy. She is a Deep learning researcher at Google Brain and Founder of non-profit Delta Analytics.

Devfest hosted more than 2000 devs and we are happy to be it. thanks to Aniedi Udo-Obong and Google Developers for making our weekend amazing.
