What do you plan to use AI for?
Everyone talks about AI nowadays, but what do you plan to use AI for?
To me, AI takes on two main roles.
The first role is to be a mentor and teacher. With its massive knowledge base, AI is well-positioned to be my teacher and ready to answer any questions that I throw at it.
But after I chat with AI for a long time, I’m getting a bit tired of figuring out what questions to ask and have decided to let AI write books for me. After all, if you have Socrates in front of you, why would you bother asking him questions one by one, rather than having him write down all his thoughts?
This not only saves time and effort but also ensures a comprehensive and systematic exploration of each topic.
The second role of AI is to help me express my feelings and ideas. In most content like articles, books, and music, I believe in the Pareto principle (80/20 rule), which states that the core ideas make up only a small portion of the content. The rest is merely wordsmithing and putting the structure in place to help deliver the message.
This is where AI can help. AI can understand your intention quite well and transform it into a form that can be easily digested by the target audience. This can significantly reduce content production costs and make free expression a more accessible right for all.
The Role of Humans in an AI-Driven World
You might be wondering, if AI writes the books and produces the music, what does that leave for humans to do? I believe humans still have three critical roles to play.
1. Curator and Agenda Setter
The first role is to be the curator and set the agenda. The truth is, it takes resources and effort to co-produce anything with AI, and humans are the ultimate decision-makers in determining whether these resources should be invested. Whatever AI produces, humans bear the cost.
2. Expressing Personal Understanding
The second role is to express your own understanding. Even if you can make AI write about a topic in depth, it doesn’t mean you automatically understand the topic. The only way to verify that you truly comprehend the subject is to express it in your own words. Your words might not provide much value for society, but they are definitely valuable to yourself in helping to solidify your understanding.
3. Generating New Ideas
The third role is to generate new ideas on top of AI’s understanding. AI’s knowledge about our world does not come from a vacuum. It’s based on the collective wisdom of the millions and billions of people who have come before us. By first understanding AI’s views on a topic, you are standing on the shoulders of giants, leveraging the collective knowledge of entire mankind.
If you still have new ideas after fully understanding AI’s perspective, then you might be touching on some truly unique concepts. Otherwise, the chance that your idea has not been discussed by others before is quite slim.
My Strategy for Utilizing AI
Based on the two main roles of AI as a mentor and a tool for expression, I have devised a strategy to leverage AI’s capabilities in my pursuit of knowledge and content creation.
1. Curate AI-generated books and music
By directing AI to create comprehensive works on topics that fascinate me, I can gain a systematic understanding of these subjects without the need to constantly formulate questions. This approach ensures a thorough exploration of each topic, saving time and effort.
2. Write articles to share my understanding
While AI can help me acquire knowledge and express my ideas more effectively, it is crucial to articulate my own understanding of the topics covered in the AI-generated books. By writing articles that combine the insights gained from AI with my unique perspective, I can solidify my comprehension and contribute to the discourse in a meaningful way.
Through this strategy, I plan to use this platform as a central catalog to track all content I co-create with AI. By sharing AI’s teachings and my personal insights with the community, I aim to realize my mission of “Democratizing knowledge for the betterment of human lives.”
This approach recognizes the powerful roles AI can play in enhancing human understanding and expression while emphasizing the importance of human curation, interpretation, and original thought.
