The buzz is over, after months of planning, from venue to participants registration, finally we started the first Abuja AI Saturday cohort.

AI Saturday kicked off with lots of tech enthusiast present. The crème de la crème of Abuja tech: we had Data Analyst, Front End Developers, Robotic Engineers, Database Managers and Site Reliability Engineers. The allure of integrating AI into their various field of expertise was too good to ignore.

With so much excitement and passion we started off learning our new mantra “Learn and kick-ass in AI” and also the demands for dedication for the entire 16 Meetups and studies. Plus the fun we would have all the way too 😃

The meetup was all inclusive, as even early coders were carried along, and we had great input from the seasoned tech gurus in the class.

We deliberated on the best learning path to follow. After we looked at all MOOC, these are the learning paths we agreed on;

  1. Python Programming and Linear Algebra.
  2. Machine Learning Crash course by Google.
  3. Coursera Deep Learning Specalization: A deep learning course by Andrew Ng.
  4. Stanford 224n

We dived right into python programming using Google Colab, covering basics in data types, Boolean, Functions, String Slicing, Lists, Tuples etc.

The AI demigod 👻 from Lagos Simon, took us on a very fun class with introductory Numpy, were we worked with various array types and array indexing.

Lunch couldn’t have come at a better time, nothing could compare to that sudden surge of energy through ones vein from sipping that chilled Coca Cola. We all looked refreshed in the class group pics, all thanks to the earlier sugar rush.

5 Hours slipped through us like 5 minutes, A fun and fulfilling day indeed

Gamers break: Level zero completed, gearing for level 1 ( week one )

Overall, it was a very interactive class with folks making new friends for project collaboration, and also, a secret somebody took up Jennifer’s offer of a free movie after the class. We all couldn’t wait for the next AI Saturday meet up, as everybody is excited to know and be part of the futuristic world of artificial intelligence

Big thanks to AI6 Lagos for the guidance in helping us kick start, to Gilgal Education Center for giving us a wonderful location and Wifi, Reimnet for providing us additional Wifi

…cheers to the weeks ahead
