Our weekly AI Saturdays (affectionately dubbed AI6) is getting more and more interesting. The stuff of science fiction can be brought to life with just a few clicks.

Learning about Convolutional Neural Network (CNN or ConvNet) and how AI can have eyes was quite interesting. CNN is a class of deep, feed-forward artificial neural networks, most commonly applied to analyzing visual imagery.

A video by Stanford University had Fei-Fei Li, PhD. explain the origin of vision in species which actually helped them to multiply quickly.

Another video on “Friendly Introduction to ConvNets and Image Recognition” helped us to see how the processes play behind the scenes in identifying objects.

Its crazy seeing that CNN is now beating humans in object detection especially in areas of disease (in health sectors) and places where it can find applications. CNN has become dominant in various computer vision tasks, and is attracting interest across a variety of domains, including radiology.

Ideas coming to mind for the application is on food identification, skin disease detection and many more. Space will not allow me to write up all that the group was able to come up with as a means of deploying this amazing Artificial Neural Network Architecture.

I can’t wait to see what the group comes up with finally as a project using CNN. Yes I want to affirm that CNN is not fake news.

Afterwards, the Intermediate Group had a go on Natural Language Processing or NLP which is concerned with the interactions between computers and human (natural) languages, in particular how to program computers to process and analyze large amounts of natural language data.

It was a full day and we all cannot wait to come back next week for another session.

All thanks to Jennifer Kwentoh and Ai6 Abuja family for making this happen.
