Tech teams from 3 different countries met in Singapore for the first time — Day 1

A few years back when our world was struck by an almost invincible enemy, named Covid19, our economy and way of living also changed a lot. People who do manual and physical efforts, need to think of new ways how they could continue to sustain themselves and their families.

In IT, the work goes on… at home, where a lot of people say that it is the most convenient job in the world because you can earn while you lie down and sometimes sleep at it. Is it? Really? Hmmm… well, most people do, but some are not. Because of the thought that we are in our most comfortable zone, we tend to forget about mingling with other people outside, workmates, co-passengers, cleaners, bus drivers, friends, and neighbors. Sometimes we don’t notice it, but it creates anxiety from deep within. I am talking about the anxiety of being too comfortable…

Is there such a type of that anxiety? I dunno, but for me, I really wanted to meet my officemates after a long period of comfort from working from home. I just wanna see their smiles and how they really look in person.

My team and company are well-diversified one, since we do have lots of colleagues working in different countries - Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Singapore. We worked together for quite some time, almost 2 years now, but we still haven’t met each other.

(I and my other teammates in CTC had fun at the pool table.)

We have done lots of team building - virtual team building to be precise. But it still feels different doing it physically.

(Using Kahoot, we made a getting-to-know team bonding activity where we list down personal facts and scramble them as choices, and see who guesses them correctly.)

(This one, is called 2-truths-and-a-lie, where each member shares 2 personal facts and a lie, and everyone will vote on which one is the lie.)

Whoever gets the highest score or highest correct guess will win a hands-down salute and a “sir” for the next entire week. In the picture, it was Hilal.

Even though we are apart, we are all good friends and we seemed to know each other very well.

When the borders are loosened and our company opened up a business trip benefit, my team planned to avail this to finally fulfill one of our goals which are to meet each other in person.

The place is AIA Tampines Office, Singapore.

Come along and take the tour with us on our 5-day semi-adventure business trip to Singapore.

to be continued…
