Techies 4 Temple Street has raised a record-breaking €225,000 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital following its annual citywide treasure hunt around Dublin.

Starting at the RDS, 130 teams from companies of all sizes, from the smallest start-ups to the biggest multinationals, trekked across the city centre completing different challenges on the ‘Techies Treasure Trail’.

Teams were faced with questions, clues and activities during the city-wide treasure hunt, utilising digital media platforms on the day to chart progress. Points were won for creativity, speed and bravery — and of course silliness!

AIB were an official sponsor of the event this year. We put forward 4 teams from Technology to take part in the full day event on 7th July, which was a great laugh! A team from Corporate banking also joined us in the days leading up to the event.

We’ve been fundraising over the past few months leading up to the big day, across 3 of our buildings. Through bake sales, pizza and board games night, virtual reality experiences, raffles, a pub quiz and even a meet & greet with WWE superstar Sheamus, we managed to raise over €14k! We’d like to thank every one who supported this cause and helped us to win top fundraisers on the day. We even won a head start for one of our teams due to our impressive final total.

Every penny raised will go towards helping children and families at Temple Street Children’s Hospital and we are so delighted to be able to support this wonderful cause in such a big way.

Activities throughout the day included puzzles, optical illusions, races, games and dancing. We even played movie director for some of our tasks, recreating Gordon Ramsay skits and famous Guinness adverts. Teamwork was key for all of the tasks and it’s safe to say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed working together. Some even met their superhero idols…!

After a three-hour quest, the teams returned to the RDS where the winners were crowned ‘Ireland’s Smartest Techies’. Unfortunately AIB were not the winners. However, one of our teams ‘The Nerd Herd’ narrowly missed first place to team ‘Bits Please’ from consultancy company Bearing Point, and came in at an impressive second place. This was no easy feat, competing against 129 highly competitive teams. Well done to the Nerd Herd on this brilliant achievement, and congratulations to Bits Please!

The fundraiser, Techies4TempleStreet, now in its third year, is organised by Temple Street with customer service software company Zendesk as this year’s Leadership Partner.

Since the first event in 2015, Techies4TempleStreet has raised over €400,000 for Temple Street. These funds have been put to work in the hospital to help sick children and their families, providing life-saving equipment and services.

Commenting, Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of Temple Street Foundation, said: “This year’s Techies4TempleStreet has been our most successful one yet. I’m thrilled to say we expect to raise a record-breaking €225,000, all of which will go to support the patients in Temple Street. The impact of these funds will greatly help the 145,000 patients who walk through our doors each year, allowing us to purchase life-saving equipment that will simply save lives. On behalf of everyone in Temple Street, we’d like to offer our congratulations to Bearing Point, and thank all 130 teams for participating today.”

Tom Kennedy, founder of Techies4TempleStreet, added: “Watching the tech community lend their support to such a worthy cause makes me proud of the industry. It’s great to see so many familiar faces at this event year after year, and we were delighted to see so many new ones this year. All should be proud to have been a part of such a generous contribution to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.”
