AIDAUG organized “AI on Pi Day,” a unique event on March 14th (3/14), 2022. Get all the details about the 2022 event and some early information about the 2023 edition.

AIDAUG (the Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Analytics Users Group) started organizing a unique event called “AI on Pi Day” on March 14th (3/14), 2022.

Although 3/14 is coming from a very US-centric date representation, the popularity of Pi Day is getting more global every year. I see it like the popularity of Halloween. There was no room for this pagan festival in my native Alsace.

Nevertheless, our organization brought you some very fine minds and speakers on the topics of Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Analytics. Yes, there is a direct correlation between data and AI. I must be the pagan here.

This is a unique opportunity to discuss with thought leaders worldwide in this exclusive event.

Forward-looking keynote

In his very inspiring keynote, Seth Dobrin describes what human-centered AI is. After the keynote, a flurry of questions led to a fascinating discussion. Check it out.

Eleven assorted & enlightening sessions

So here is the lineup we had in 2022, with links to their recordings on YouTube. There is also an entire playlist on the event.

What is AIDAUG? Ralf Roeber goes over the services and benefits AIDAUG provides to its member (for free).

Anders Kramer Knudsen explains how to boost financial planning with automatic forecasting, specifically how to implement financial planning models that leverage historical data to forecast successive periods. The theory is coupled with two implementations of forecast models implemented using IBM TM1 planning software and open-source tools to predict forecasts.

Ryan Dolley is looking at perfecting the last mile of the analytics supply chain and targets an audience of data analytics and data leaders looking to understand how to have meaningful data conversations with business people.

In forecasting at Scale, an Automated Approach, David Trisl focuses on economic data analysis. He is currently working on making time series forecasting more accessible to everyday business users that stand to benefit from simplified access to state-of-the-art forecasting solutions.

You don’t take your lawn mower to the supermarket, and you don’t use a screwdriver to nails. Rikke Jacobsen draws a comparison between IBM Business Analytics and PowerBI. She gets a lot of questions about the differences between Cognos, Planning, and PowerBI, and she gives you an overview without dissing any of the great products.

Karen Kilroy explains to software architects, developers, and technical managers the principles of designing and building AI that is tethered by blockchain. She discusses why you want to be able to track and trace AI and how you might use blockchain to reverse changes AI makes to itself.

Agave is one of the most emblematic crops of Mexico. Eduardo Ulises Moya Sánchez works for the state of Jalisco, which is home of the Tequila designation of origin. Tequila production and agave cultivation are crucial for the state’s economic development. In this context, developing strategies for monitoring agave production is vital. AI (Deep Learning) can automatically monitor agave crops and plants.

Data is everywhere, and in NLP, data can come from any source: the web, your favorite book, linguist-compiled datasets, or even just your speech. When working with so much text data, cleaning up and normalizing your text is essential. Pierre-Nicolas Perrin covers the basics of data pre-processing in NLP, introduces methods such as Word2Vec, and, most importantly, explains why NLP data requires pre-processing to be the most useful.

Jan Musil demonstrates how CloudPak for Data (CP4D) services can consume Informix data and how you can use these services for simple analysis. Services like Watson Studio, SPSS, or Data Refinery will be used as an example for analyzing traditional relational data or TimeSeries data.

Michael Mikowski demonstrates the substantial advancements in Linux desktop usability. Mike will share the secret sauce of how his team developed and delivered just-works Linux clients for professionals, with a strong focus on AI and data analytics.

John Fred Davis detects icy bridges with AWS, Image Processing, and AI. He describes his submission to the AWS Disaster Response hackathon in great detail.

Welcome to 2023

AI on Pi Day 2022 was a success. I am inviting you to AI on Pi Day 2023 (and the following editions, obviously). The date is the easiest to remember, and it is a little immutable.

As I wrap up this article, the Call for Paper (CfP) for 2023 has yet to be officially opened, but let me share the link with you. nevertheless, you could be among the first to submit
