Hello Innovators!

Here I sit, stuffed with herring, dill new potatoes and lager writing about all the frantic work we did here at the Applied Innovation Exchange, Nordics last week. When the week is only 4 days long you need to cram as much in as possible. Luckily for us we are experts at working fast and furious. Maybe a sign that the 4 day workweek is worth looking into?

Easter holidays
We were looking forward to a nice spring break and the weather did not fail us. Warmer than it’s been the whole year we enjoyed being outside in gardens and finding hidden eggs in the grass.

Bunnies. For Easter.

In my little family we even ventured out to see the new Super Mario Brothers movie in 4D! The wind was blowing, water splashing and the theatre seat bouncing and vibrating like a roller coaster. Needless to say, it’s easy to understand why immersive technology is continuing it’s rise in popularity. The more immersive the better.

Aside from our daily tasks, we’ve been spending a bit of time working with a municipality on a project using NAO robots. NAO robots are autonomous humanoid robots with AI capabilities. And they’re just so cute. Here’s a picture of ours.

Officially “NAO”, though we have taken to calling him Ernie.

Research suggests that children with Aspergers and ADD respond well to the NAO robot and we’ve been developing a bit of an engaging demonstration of this for our collaborators.

Additionally, we’ve taught NAO to dance to ABBA and give a mean hi-five. He’s definitely taken over the office for now and given us just a glimpse into what future support robots might be like.

Though NAO has no where near the facial expressions Ameca does, there is still a sense of connection you get looking into his glowing eyes. Maybe it’s a human flaw to feel compassion for things we logically know have no feelings. Or maybe it is just that type of human element that will save our species one day.

That’s all for now. Keep innovating!
