UPDATE (July 13, 2017): I’ve added the Career Profile for ‘Guide to Working in AI Policy and Strategy’ recently released by 80,000 Hours.

Like many great resources, I found this several clicks after a good podcast. Ezra Klein interviewed Stripe CEO Patrick Collison in December, and in doing so referenced Slate Star Codex and the effective altruism community.

While I’ve yet to read Slate Star Codex regularly, I did see an ad for 80,000 Hours — an organization dedicated to helping motivated people select and transition into careers with greater social impact.

Their decision tool outputs the best fit focus areas, and low and behold, I was directed toward a career into mitigating risks posed by artificial intelligence.

While reading purely on the risk side of the coin isn’t advisable, I found the profiles to be informative and balanced in their conclusions. They’re also the source of some other great reading and reference material, particularly if you’re looking into careers in the space.
