Why GEN AI Boom Is Fading And What’s Next?

There is no doubt in my mind that in the past few decades, nothing has made more noise than AI. And as I look carefully, a lot of it is noise only, with a few good breakthroughs that most people ignored completely. The AI hype cycle is not a new phenomenon and it is not even limited to AI. We have seen this type of phenomenon with a lot of emerging technology.

With the release of ChatGPT, everything changed significantly and AI became the talking point of every business. But the noise is not always a good thing, a lot of important things are being missed in this hype. So, today, we will look into what’s happening in terms of technology and business with AI. In this article, we are primarily concerned with Generative AI only, because that is the most hyped thing in the last year or so.

The Great Divide

There are primarily three sets of viewpoints about LLMs, let’s take a closer look at them.

Position I (Skepticism)

A few scientists like Chomsky view LLMs as highly advanced statistical tools that don’t equate to intelligence at all. The viewpoint is that these machines have seen so much data they can just give responses to any question we might come up with.
