Success is a consequence of many failures, and the only thing you need to do is take it easy on yourself and learn as much as you can.
Fear of Speaking Up
Asking for a raise, giving your honest opinion, thinking outside the box, and going against the flow all represent a big challenge for workers who are afraid of speaking up. The only thing you have to ask yourself is: why are you so afraid? Even if it is your first job, and you have little to no experience, you were hired for a reason. You have potential. If your work and effort is up to standard and not sub-par, then you have nothing to be afraid of. Pick your moments, ask for that raise you know you deserve, share your thoughts with your boss and co-workers. After all, you are part of that team.
Fear of Getting Fired
Probably the most common fear between all workers, and the leading cause for most other fears in the workplace. The fact is, there’s a lot you can do to limit this fear. Keep your performance up, be proactive, and engage with your co-workers and managers. That’s all in your control. Everyone loves the active dedicated employee. If the company fails, goes bankrupt, or is forced to let go of a number of employees; it’ll make it really hard for them to let you go. Keep track of where your company stands in the market, keep a portion of your salary in savings, and look for better opportunities if needs be. It’s always good to have a backup plan.
Fear of Confrontation
Lets face it, not everyday is going to be a great day at work. When everyone is getting along at work, you’ll find yourself soaring through your tasks as time flies by. Work is very pleasant when everyone is running smoothly. But the fact is, it’s virtually impossible to always agree on everything, so sometimes work conflicts are inevitable. That’s perfectly normal, sometimes even necessary. Everyone has different opinions, but when confronting someone about their performance, always do it in private and never around other co-workers.
Every employee is different just as every person is different. They all bring a certain flavor to the company and each one of them has a value. Companies hire people because they see potential in them, so if you perform well, love your job, and never lose sight of that potential, you wont have anything to worry about.
