Back in November 2017, we participated in Lisbon’s Web summit carrying back with us a few lessons learnt. Participating in Austin’s SXSW Edu for the first time was as good in its own way. Usually, we use the first year we attend a conference or a trade show to learn the dynamics and to plan for a good outcome the next time around. In this case, we had an excellent outcome almost immediately. I like SXSW Edu, its size, the vibes, Austin, and the tacos.
If you were to attend, you don’t have to book a space in the exhibit hall, even though this may prove to be of benefit to your company. We booked a table for a two-hour Startup event. That worked beautifully. People who walked to our table knew that they had two-hours to talk to 13 tables. In two hours, we met with students, teachers, university professors, K-12 and higher-ed administrators, companies, and three investors.
Two representations from Lebanon were there: A delegation from AUB’s Center for Civic Engagement and us. A shout out to all Lebanese edtech companies who are interested in the US market: Let’s plan to have more of us in Austin next year. Eduware, Kamkalima, Kashida, Lebanese Alternative Learning, Nooreed, Potential, Synkers, The Little Engineer, White Mountain Technologies… anyone else? Yalla.

Images to read! I’m sure reading some of the comments on the wall would spark a thought or two.
The food, the music, and of course, the tacos
Yes. Tacos in Austin are in a category of their own. Tacos for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and anything in between :-). Check this article out: the only 13 tacos you need to eat in Austin, Texas.
