This is the first step of building a Prototype Plan. The Plan will include a concept description and a timeline, but before you worry about getting where you’re going, start with a Roadmap. Once this is complete, you will turn this roadmap into a concrete plan. This first pass is your analysis of where you have been and terrains yet to explore. Create a high-level map to address the following key questions:
Areas (attributes, features, part of the experience) that you have studied that need refinement.
Areas (attributes, features, part of the experience) that you have not yet explored
Prioritize these areas. Which are the most important? Which parts can be left out?
Methods: what is the appropriate method for each priority area — prototyping? Research gathering? Brainstorming?

Prototype Plan

How exactly will you make this prototype? Begin to fill in details. Set deadlines for each stage. Pay special attention to the priorities you listed in your roadmap. Your Prototype Plan should include:

  • Description of concept (try to reduce to a one-line summary followed by a one-paragraph description)
  • Sketches or other illustrations
  • A timeline for getting to each individual Prototype stage: POC, LLFL, LLAL (see below).
  • Weekly goals for research and making

When creating your timeline and weekly goals, try to break down what needs to be done in as granular a fashion as you can. And a good rule of thumb, whatever time you estimate something will take, triple it. You will see immediately that you have to get moving :-).
