Is there anyone who didn’t hear about ChatGPT? Well, I guess not. It has been one of the most useful and popular tools recently. It has accomplished to spread the usage of AI massively worldwide. But the fact is there is a misconception. People think that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is only about ChatGPT -however, it’s OpenAI’s success-. AI is more than that, ChatGPT is the one delightful enterprise of this game-changer innovation, as an implementation of AI to a chatbot. There are many AI-Powered chatbots and many are about to come up. One of them and the most competitive one is well-known Microsoft’s BingAI.
In this article, I will cover the comparison of these two exciting AI tools and explain without touching too many technical details. If you say “Keep it short but make me well-informed”, then you are in the right place my friend! Since the path is clear, let’s get to the heart of the matter. How do they differ? What is the difference?
1. Functionality
Firstly, we should know how they differ from the start, the basics. They include different technologies and approaches in their structure. At first, we should know that they both use machine learning techniques with huge amounts of data, but in different ways. Basically, Machine learning is the process of training algorithms to make predictions or decisions based on data. The difference is, ChatGPT generates human-like responses and mimics the human brain by using a huge amount of data, that is limited to 2021. On the other hand, BingAI aims to find the best result and provide relevant information. Although it was improved in to use of the language, ChatGPT performs better. Similarly, it also uses a huge amount of data but it does not have any limitations. Moreover, it has a connection to the internet so the research may be more accurate. Don’t be surprised to hear this, it also provides links to its research!
2. Usage
They are both text-based chat tools. I can hear you saying you know already. The crucial point is how you use the language. It is how you direct the chatbot. They may sound very intelligent but approaching techniques have a vital role in affecting the response. When using ChatGPT, you should be providing more context but also keeping it short. Furthermore, you can go step by step with ChatGPT, so it will increase the accuracy. What I always recommend with using ChatGPT is to use ChatGPT as you are talking to a child. Include details, keep it short, and go step by step. So it can understand better. Conversely, as we touched on earlier about BingAI, it is purposely built to provide you with relevant information. So if you want an accurate response, you should be asking specifically. To do this, you should use specific search terms, so it will increase the accuracy. You can also use search operators to point to the exact data you want. In addition, there are 3 chat styles in BingAI. You can switch between “Balanced”, “Creative” or “Precise” styles.
3. Applications and Technology
Since they were built with different technologies, let’s look at briefly what they are, which one to use and where. These chatbots are built with similar purposes but may differ in their specific applications and technologies. Also, BingAI uses ChatGPT4 as well. So, it is safe to say that used fields may be in common. But I will try to provide information about in which fields they are specifically efficient.
Referring back to our earlier conversation, ChatGPT is a great choice for developing chat-based applications and so chatbots. Since it is specialized in natural language processing, it can be effective in customer service. In healthcare, I read an article about how they may be better than physicians in patient communication. Also, I saw some videos of how they implemented ChatGPT in a robot to mimic human-like speech. Last but not least, I saw a very exciting video of the game Mount & Blade, a mod added to the game that uses ChatGPT to make bots speak just like humans. I predict this is the future of video games as well as it will be in the future of many fields, surely. So, you can use ChatGPT API to implement it in your app with any idea you want to make exciting with AI.
Alternatively, Bing offers wider API services that use AI as well, such as Bing Search API uses AI. With its success in providing search results, it may be helpful for businesses that want to increase their success on the web. Unfortunately, BingAI has no API for itself. This is reasonable because it is not as much as successful in generating human-like responses as ChatGPT, for now -especially considering ChatGPT’s success in tons of various categories.- Another topic that BingAI can be useful in is doing research, especially in educational stuff. Because it provides links with its response, thus it satisfies many people in the academic world.

While ChatGPT is the most useful and dominant one, we can say that BingAI is more of an AI-powered search engine with a chatbot.
