Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the world of tech may seem overwhelming to those of us outside the industry. This article is not for those advanced in the tech industry who speak the indecipherable tech language for us mere mortals. If you’re someone who is interested in tech just enough to get to know the mainstream apps that can be useful in everyday life, this article is for you. Even more, I’m writing to those looking to elevate their podcast listening experience through learning and note taking — a challenge we’ll tackle below.

Do you catch yourself listening to a podcast, and constantly pressing the replay button because you got too distracted and missed some parts of it? Or are you able to focus, but don’t have the time to take notes? I’m pretty sure this is the case for most of people. Me too. You probably feel stuck and unfocused, and you wished you had more time to take notes and retain knowledge. And then you tend to give up on the podcast. Not only that one, but listening to podcasts altogether.

Thanks to tech like Snipd, podcast listeners don’t have to go through the lack-of-time struggle and the excessively replay button-tapping anymore. With this AI-based tool, you can enjoy your podcasts and save notes with just one click on your headphones. Here’s how it works.

What is Snipd?

Snipd is an AI-powered software that allows you to take notes from podcast. They use their own AI machine and also ChatGPT to create snips and generate transcripts of what you listen to. Whenever you find a specific part of the podcast interesting, you can tap on your earphone to create a snip and it will automatically save and store it in your chosen database as a transcript.

Who is Snipd for?

  • Academic students

Snipd is for whoever wants to learn and retain knowledge through podcasts. Remember that subject that you didn’t quite grasp during your lecture? Find a podcast around that subject through Snipd and study on the go.

  • Researchers

If you’re like me and works with research, we know how time consuming it can be to find extra information to put on that paper. Although nearly every researcher developed a system to optimise their time and work quality, it’s never too much to have an extra tool like Snipd.

  • Marketing creatives

Snipd can be incredibly helpful for marketing professionals who want to expand their knowledge and vision into the market trends, creative tools and frameworks suggested by thought leaders, field experts and big innovators. As an example, have a look on the snips I created when listening to the podcast where Ali Abdaal interviewed Nicholas Cole during a Deep Dive episode.

This can be handy for content writers looking to kick-off start their career.

  • Aspiring learners with a busy schedule

You can retain knowledge from podcasts while doing other activities. Tap on your earphones to save a snip while you’re working out, cooking or cycling.

  • Former podcast listeners because of lack of focus

Remember the endless cycle of playing a podcast and tapping the previous button to go back 30s because you got completely distracted? I noticed something.

When I use Snipd, I tend to focus more on the podcast, as if I’d be unconsciously playing a game where the tapping and creating snips would be a way of scoring points. Obviously, I still get distracted, but the possibility to listen to insights and retain them in text gives me extra motivation to involuntarily focus more.

How does Snipd work?

  1. Download the app on your phone and choose your subscription plan.

It’s mostly free, but if you want to use the AI-features (podcast snips transformed into transcripts) for more than 2 podcasts per week, you have to choose the premium subscription.

If you listen to a lot of podcasts and can leverage your job, life and all by retaining more knowledge, hurry up! They have special offers now that they recently released the premium plan.

2. Adjust your settings

Decide how many seconds back you want to snip and what functions each side of your earphones will have (fast forward, take snip, etc.).

3. Add your app integrations

Snipd can be integrated with Notion Software and Readwise, but it also offers the possibility for you to export your snips to other note taking apps. I personally use a Notion page to store all my podcast transcripts.

4. Find your favourite podcasts and start listening!

For each podcast program, you have an overview of all the episodes. Download an episode, star them or simply start listening straight away. Tap on your earphone to create the snips and go to you note taking app or software to have an overview of your database.

Pay attention! For those with the free subscription, you need to unlock the AI features to create transcripts. Simply click on the green button and your snips will be saved as transcripts.

AI-based app for podcast note taking.

Remember you have access to the AI features for only 2 podcast episodes per week.

Why should you use Snipd?

You should use Snipd if you want to use technology to leverage your learning and work. It will:

  • Save your time
  • Optimise your learning
  • Bring you efficiency
  • Allow you to share knowledge with others
  • Make you learn either through listening or through reading — from the transcripts.

My personal impressions on Snipd

It’s worth mentioning that Snipd is not sponsoring this article. However. it’s part of my personal interest to share the tools that I found to leverage my work and life overall.

Being the first of my family to have access to higher education and therefore access to further growth opportunities, I believe knowledge without sharing is just loose information. Technology offers the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, enhance learning and skill development, opening doors to other opportunities that can significantly improve people’s lives.

Snipd is a tool that gives you the opportunity to grow on the tap of your fingers. You don’t need too much time, just a phone with internet connection and being interested to learn and elevate your experience listening to podcasts.

How do I use Snipd?

I live in Amsterdam, the city of bikes. I listen to a podcast every time I cycle for 30min to get to work. That means that if the podcast lasts 2 hours, I can learn something new in 2 days just by going to work. Not to mention that I also play podcasts while I’m cooking and when I’m working out or running. You can literally learn something new about a certain subject in one day during everyday life activities.

If you’re interested to have an overview of how I boost my learning with Snipd and podcasts, here’s my Notion page with some of the episodes I’ve snipped.
