Kia EV3 to have ChatGPT driven voice assistant

Kia has unveiled the final version of its EV3 small electric SUV, set to debut a sophisticated AI voice assistant. First showcased as a concept last year, the EV3 will launch in South Korea this July, followed by a European release in the second half of the year. Although a U.S. release is confirmed, the timeline remains unspecified.

The EV3 will be the first production electric vehicle to feature Kia’s voice-activated AI assistant, previously seen in the Kia K4. This assistant, based on a heavily modified version of ChatGPT, will enable users to plan trips, find entertainment, and more. The technology will initially be available in Korea, with a subsequent rollout in Europe.

The EV3 boasts an estimated 600km (373 miles) driving range on the European WLTP system, with a long-range model equipped with an 81.4kWh battery. A standard model featuring a 58.3kWh battery is also planned. Additionally, Kia will offer a sportier β€œGT-line” variant. The EV3 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, utilising Hyundai’s E-GMP platform for its powertrain.

Inside, the EV3 features dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment, a five-inch HVAC panel, and a 12-inch heads-up display. Premium streaming apps, thanks to LG’s webOS-based auto platform, and customizable dashboard themes, including NBA-inspired designs, are also included. The vehicle’s spacious interior, inspired by the Kia EV9, accommodates five passengers and includes practical features like a sliding table and storage space for personal items.

Externally, the EV3 draws design cues from the larger, boxy Kia EV9. The absence of a front gas engine allows for a 25-litre frunk, providing additional storage.

The EV3’s introduction marks Kia’s latest effort to integrate advanced AI technology into its vehicles, enhancing user experience and vehicle functionality.
