💭 Hey there, fellow note-takers! Let me take you on a wild ride through my journey of trying to migrate from Evernote to Notion. I’ve been a loyal Evernote user for a whopping 15 years, but recently, it started feeling a bit outdated. So when I stumbled upon Notion and its fancy features, I couldn’t resist giving it a shot. Little did I know, this migration adventure would be a roller-coaster of frustration and unexpected hurdles that made me stick with Evernote in the end.

Notion’s Mind-Blowing Features: Okay, let’s talk about the cool stuff that got me all hyped up about Notion. First off, they had this AI wizardry going on, promising to automate tasks like writing summaries and generating text. I mean, who wouldn’t want an AI sidekick, right? But that’s not all. Notion also boasted automatic linking of related notes, something I spent ages doing manually in Evernote. So you can imagine how excited I was about saving time and streamlining my note-creating mojo. But here’s the kicker…

My Precious Notes!

💍Hanging on to My Precious Notes: Sure, Notion seemed like the new kid on the block with all the shiny features, but I had a digital treasure trove of notes in Evernote. These notes were my trusted sidekick, my second brain. I couldn’t bear the thought of splitting my brainpower between Evernote and Notion, constantly wondering where my important nuggets of information were. I needed reliability, and that’s why I decided to stick with Evernote — for now.

🎢 The Thrill and the Bumps: With Evernote feeling like an old pair of shoes, I couldn’t resist the lure of Notion’s shiny promises. Plus, they had these nifty import tools, including one specifically for Evernote. It seemed like a match made in note-taking heaven. So with my heart racing, I dove headfirst into the migration process, ready to embrace the new and say goodbye to the old. Boy, was I in for a surprise.

🙍 The Frustration of Incomplete Imports: Picture this: I started importing my Evernote notes into Notion, expecting a smooth transition. But guess what? Some notes didn’t quite make the journey intact. It was like playing hide and seek with my own notes. I spent countless hours going through each imported notebook, desperately trying to figure out what went wrong. It wasn’t the seamless experience I had envisioned.

🔗 😢 Useless Links and Broken Dreams: Hold on, it gets worse. Remember all those carefully crafted links between my Evernote notes? Well, they became utterly useless in Notion. The text was there, you could click it, but nothing happens. Those links were the magic glue that held my notes together, allowing me to navigate my knowledge base effortlessly. Without them, my notes felt scattered and disconnected. Talk about a blow to my productivity!

🕑 Hours Wasted and Staying Put: After banging my head against the wall for hours, I stumbled upon a note that was not completely imported. Then I saw another. The comparing of the count of notes in each note book is not enough, I will have to check every single one of the 14,000 notes. I had to face the music. Notion just wasn’t reliable enough to handle my entire note collection. If I was going to move I need to be sure my 15,000 notes are going with me. So, with a heavy heart, I made the tough call to stick with good ol’ Evernote. It might not have all the flashy features, but at least I know my notes are safe and sound.

👀 Looking Ahead: Even though I’ve decided to stick with Evernote, I’m not closing the door on Notion completely. I’m open to exploring it for specific projects and note-taking needs. The allure of Notion’s exciting features and its potential for boosting my productivity still tempts me. Who knows? Maybe in the future, things will change. Perhaps Notion will iron out the kinks and offer a seamless migration solution that I can’t resist. As technology keeps evolving, I remain hopeful that the day will come when I can fully embrace Notion’s power and bid farewell to Evernote. Or maybe Evernote will play catch up and get on the AI bandwagon.

In the meantime, I’ve learned some valuable lessons from this migration adventure. First and foremost, reliability is key. When it comes to my extensive note collection, I need a platform I can trust. Another thing is I know what to look out for if I do attempt to migrate in the future. Check counts on different notebooks, and also check various types of notes to ensure they made the journey intact.

As I wrap up this tale of frustration, I’m content with my decision to stick with Evernote for now. It’s like an old friend who might not have all the bells and whistles, but has proven its worth over the years.

Remember, fellow note-takers, when talking about your second-brain it’s not just about the features — it’s about the reliability, preservation, and the little things that make note-taking a breeze.
