Overview of Adventure Mode
Introducing Adventure Mode — the primary PvE, exploration and questing game mode shipping with Aion Rising’s launch. Core mechanics such as Exploring, Channeling, Questing and Raiding will all take place in Adventure Mode, where players will be discovering the vast and varied regions of the Cambrian continent, embarking on Quests and of course, progressing their Heroes from humble upstarts to towering titans.
The screenshot above shows an early look at our Adventure Mode interface concept. The navbar at the top will be a permanent fixture across almost every screen, allowing quick navigation to important pages. A “fog of war” over the world map in Adventure Mode will represent the player’s level of discovery for the current and surrounding regions — as you Explore, the map is revealed to a greater degree, unlocking points of interest such as Leylines, as well as Quests, as well as granting experience and crafting materials.
There will be a few game mechanics which live outside of Adventure Mode. Crafting and Arena (PvP) are two such examples; if you have the materials and recipe for an item, you can craft it anytime, no matter which region you are in. Similarly, if you have the resources to enter into the Arena, you can do so anytime.
Adventure Mode, therefore, represents the first phase of Aion Rising. It will contain most of the core gameplay tied to the game world, and through it players will gradually uncover the world map, and with it the opportunity to participate in raids, faction-specific gameplay and world events. These are the building blocks for the base version of the game, which we will iterate on and continue to tweak as the game goes live.
All subsequent features and mechanics we have planned will be rolled out in later phases — this allows us to maintain a laser focus on each major version of the game, and to ensure we have a solid foundation on which to create successive layers of complexity. Each phase will add new components to the Aion ecosystem, bringing new gameplay experiences and greater value to all of our players.
