The Vaquita is vanishing — 2018 may be the species’ last year on this planet. If it could speak, what would a statement by the Vaquita look like?

“Just 12 of us Vaquitas are left on this planet.

2018 may be the year when we leave Earth forever. We’re getting out of the way of humans, whose survival depends on fishing in the ocean that has been our habitat forever.

It would have been great if humans had figured out a way for both species to coexist on this beautiful, amazing planet. But apparently, that’s not possible.

So now, we have to make an exit from the ecosystem.

Hope you will remember us, and our sacrifice.”
