Calling all applicants! Are you a doctoral candidate, post-doc, or aid practitioner? Do you have work you’d like to share on education and integration? You might be the right fit for the Georg Arnhold International Summer Conference on the Potential of Education for Integration. The conference will be held in Berlin, Germany from June 22 to 26, 2020, and is hosted by The Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research.

Throughout the course of the conference, we will discuss the ways education can interact with social integration of migrants, refugees and displaced persons, (national) minorities, and indigenous societies. This interdisciplinary and collaborative forum will bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from around the world. The Airbel Impact Lab: Research and Innovation at the IRC will be working with the Georg Eckert Institute to hold a one-day incubator session during this conference. During the incubator session, we will explore connections between the IRC’s programming and participants’ work. We will use design methods and mindsets to think through practical ways of improving the impact of your work and/or growing its scale.

Some incubator activities may include:

  • Understanding the user: Identifying pain points, habit mapping, journey mapping
  • Contextualization: Communicating clearly, leveraging existing networks and messengers
  • Connecting interventions to user values: Persona building, moral reframing, linking to aspirations
  • Improving surveying and data collection through the experience of the end user
  • Rapid prototyping of methods to collect data and arrive at better questions

Incubator participants will also be considered to participate in a research fellowship with the IRC in late 2020. Fellows will be selected through their participation in the incubator, as well as some follow-up screening. These participants will have the opportunity to further their own work as well as that of the IRC by traveling to one of IRC’s field locations.

The deadline for completed applications is February 23, 2020.
