As human beings we naturally love to help each other and share in our experience on this world. To often we get tied down in one place. We start shooting down roots: a house, a dog, and soon a family.

So many people have the desire to travel and experience different cultures firsthand, but feel they can’t because of family, pets, and rent. Let your roots enrich you multicultural experience, not hinder it!

Becoming an Airbnb Host can enrich your life more than just financially, it can let you experience other cultures firsthand without leaving your home.

Can I Even be a host?

You can host on Airbnb is you can answer YES to all of these questions.

  1. Do you have an extra bedroom/guest room? Or a guest house, apartment, or other property?
  2. Are you available by phone most of the time? Even just by text.
  3. Can you arrange for the room to be clean before each guest?

This SEVEN reasons will help you to take a final decision about this “crazy idea”, let’s go!

  1. IT IS ONE OF THE FASTEST WAYS TO MAKE GOOD MONEY.

Maybe you’re considering some business options at this moment, some of them will require an initial investment and others even more than that. It sounds like a lot of work right?

To start hosting at Airbnb, you don’t need any of that.

Of course, there is some work involved. You will have to prepare the space and be available (by phone) for any questions the guest has for the duration of the stay.

Is a good solution if you have a money emergency or you want “extra money”. Since there are always people out there looking for a place where to stay, normally it takes just a few days to start receiving guests in your place.

2. ALL THE RISKS ARE COVERED.

Its natural to worry about possible damages that can occur.

Airbnb has a Host Protection Insurance program that provides primary liability coverage of up to $1 million USD per occurrence.

This program covers:

  • Damage to a host’s property (home, unit, rooms, possessions).
  • Certain property damage in common areas of a property outside of the listing itself (for example: a building lobby).

Every Airbnb listing in every country is covered by this program and it gets automatically activated as soon you start hosting.

If damages occur, documentation (photos, receipts, etc.) will need to be provided as part of the resolution process. So take photos of your space before you get started. Airbnb has great support, so there is no need to worry.

3. YOU WILL KNOW WHO YOU ARE RECEIVING

As soon as you receive a guest’s request to stay in your place, you will be able to learn about this person, read their personal information, and more importantly, you can read the reviews of other hosts have written.

Guest’s profile information and Reviews
  • If you don’t want this person to stay, you can decline their request without problem.
  • If you do like this person, you can accept the request and that’s it! Simple and secure.

As a host, you can require the guest verifies a government ID (this is optional, but recommended).

There is also the option to allow bookings without your approval (Instant Book), but starting out, its best to get comfortable with the guests by approving them one-by-one.

4. YOU’RE GONNA MEET AMAZING PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND MAKE FRIENDS FOR LIFE.

I heard a bunch of beautiful stories of people connecting in amazing ways. Life always surprises me in a very good way, I have met people who reminded me that we all are brothers and sisters from different mothers and fathers.

I also read love stories of people finding their soulmates out there. Anyway, whatever will be the case, there are friends waiting to meet the amazing person you are!

5. LEARN FROM OTHER CULTURES AS IF YOU WERE VISITING OTHER COUNTRIES.

Airbnb is used by people from all over the world traveling for any reason.

People aged 25–34 are the top users of Airbnb, but guests come from all age groups over the required 18 years. Travelers are visiting other countries or different parts of their own, to have new experiences every day.

Traveling is a great chance to experience a different culture and your future guests are excited to share their culture and learn from yours. As a host, you will learn so much from your guests! Its like traveling without leaving your home.

6. PRACTICE NEW LANGUAGES FOR FREE WITH NATIVE SPEAKERS.

Hosting is the best time to resume your Spanish classes or start learning a new language like German, French or even Mandarin!

Is the best opportunity to learn fast and practice with native speakers. I met an airbnb host a few days ago in Lima, Perú. His english was incredible! He said it took him three months to get so fluent and confident just by receiving guests on Airbnb. Without taking any english classes, amazing right?

If a guest not speaking your language is a big concern for you for some reason, you can see on their profile what languages they speak, also Airbnb will automatically translate the messages in the chat.

I recommend NOT only accepting guests fluent in your language, as the best learning comes from different cultures. Pretty much everyone speaks a little English, anyway.

7. NO MARKETING INVOLVED FROM YOUR SIDE.

That’s right. The Airbnb application will do all that work for you, including sharing your listing to prospective guests, processing payments, and facilitating communication between you and them!

All you have to do is have the space ready to receive your first guests and offer your best service to ensure people come back with you!

Guest reviews are your best marketing tool, so be sure to find out what is important for each guest and help them. This can be as simple as some directions, or letting them use your blender.
