An economist by education, Manik Chawla, CRO of Petal, the credit card fintech that’s on a mission to bring financial opportunity and innovation to everyone. Manik has 16 years experience in credit risk and data science, first in traditional banking, now in fintech.
He shared with us the approach to credit risk he led at Petal when Covid-19 first hit, the inability of CROs to follow a recession playbook — and later in the session, why the launch of Prism, Petal’s brand new transaction categorisation tool, was as important for him (as it was for Petal’s co-founders) to share their expertise with the wider market.

Policy maker and long-term friend of Aire, Melissa Koide, founded Washington-based FinRegLab in 2018. With a unique, macro view of the market, she stands between policy, innovation and government regulation and has contributed to discussions on both sides of the Atlantic around the correct use of data (see a recent panel Aire joined her on alongside the FCA here).

37 years in financial services, both as CRO at SoFi and at Wells Fargo consumer lending business, Kevin Moss now uses his years of experience to advise fintechs on their growth: he described his role now as ‘working with young people with great ideas to bring their plans to fruition’.
He discussed with us some of that innovation he’s seeing in the market and why these groundbreaking solutions offer real opportunity to previously marginalised consumers.
