The latest version of AirGap (v3.8.0) brings support for WalletConnect which was requested by our community.

Why WalletConnect?

One of the common questions we receive from our users is how to add custom ERC20 in AirGap. walletConnect is a new feature that we’ve added as part of our strategy to make it possible to interact with as many ERC20 tokens as possible within the wallet while maintaining the highest level of security possible.

How to use WalletConnect in AirGap

In this example, we will access uniswap and make a connection to demonstrate how it works. You’ll need both the vault and wallet apps, as well as another device to access uniswap website, so make sure you have both (preferably a desktop browser).

Note: There may be some differences between the screenshots you see here and those you see on other websites (DApps). The buttons may be located in a different area of the page or they may be referred to by a different name altogether. They will, however, almost always follow the same procedure to perform a transaction.

Also, Be careful when visiting a website(DApps), Make certain you are only visiting the official app.

  • Start by opening your desktop browser and then visiting this website: Uniswap Uniswap’s official website should be accessed by clicking on this link.
  • Click the launch app button
  • Click the connect to a wallet button
  • Click walletconnect
  • Scan QR code by going into your wallet and selecting the Scan QRs Tab. You may experience a few seconds delay for the wallet to sync with walletconnect.
  • Click the connect button. You should see your address showing at the top right corner of uniswap.
  • You’ve successfully connected your wallet using walletconnect and can now perform transactions.

More features

Aside from WalletConnect, some of the recent features AirGap has just implemented include:

  • Updated serializer: We change our serializer to follow more common community standards.
  • Simplified onboarding: A simplified process for setting up a new or existing vault by allowing you to “sync” multiple accounts over to the Wallet.
  • BIP85: A concept that lets you manage several mnemonics (different wallets) while only needing to back up one of your mnemonics.
  • Tezos sapling: It allows you to perform privacy-preserving transactions of fungible tokens in a decentralized environment on test nest (edonet) only.

More details about our updated serializer, segwit and simplified onboarding implementation can be found here, while BIP85 and Tezos sapling can be found in our previous blog.
