AirGap add support for Optimism Network

Introduction
We are thrilled to announce that we have successfully integrated Optimism (OP) Layer 2 technology into our solution. This significant development marks a major step forward in our mission to empower users with seamless and scalable access to the Ethereum blockchain. By incorporating Optimism, AirGap Wallet is poised to deliver an enhanced and more efficient user experience, further solidifying our commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions in the crypto ecosystem.
Optimism features Introduced
As we we mentioned in our previous post, part of the deliverables for the grant we got during Season 3, Cycle 11 that is included in this update includes:
1. Integrate native OP into AirGap Vault and Wallet
2. Include the Top 100 ERC-20 tokens (by market cap) on Optimism
3. Add a feature to import and use any ERC-20 token on Optimism
4. Include Optimism in open-source developer tooling: airgap-coin-lib
5. Continuous maintenance, testing, and community support for years to come.
In upcoming updates we’ll introduce WalletConnect to be used to connect AirGap to Optimism dApps and continue to maintain, test, and provide community support for these features. This will take a few weeks so stay tuned.
6. The Cherry on the Pie: MetaMask & Rabby Support
With our latest update, the AirGap Vault now fully supports the signing of transactions from MetaMask and Rabby Wallet on the Optimism chain. This means that users can seamlessly interact with the Optimism network, signing transactions securely and efficiently using their preferred wallets.
We understand the importance of compatibility and convenience when it comes to blockchain transactions that’s why we brought this additional feature.

Optimism Network Explained
Optimism is a Layer 2 scaling solution for the Ethereum blockchain, designed to address the long-standing challenge of scalability. By utilizing a technique called optimistic rollup, Optimism significantly enhances Ethereum’s throughput and reduces transaction fees, while maintaining the underlying security guarantees of the Ethereum network.
In simple terms, Optimism acts as a bridge between the Ethereum mainnet and a secondary layer that operates off-chain. This secondary layer, known as the Optimistic Virtual Machine (OVM), processes transactions more quickly and then submits a summarized version of those transactions to the Ethereum mainnet. This approach allows Optimism to increase Ethereum’s capacity and improve overall performance, making it ideal for applications that require high throughput and low fees.

The integration of Optimism into AirGap Wallet represents a major milestone for both our solution and the wider Ethereum community. About AirGap
The AirGap solution turns a spare smartphone into a cold wallet. It achieves this by using two apps, AirGap Vault, and AirGap Wallet.
The AirGap Vault app lets you create and handle your private key on a dedicated offline device, whilst its companion app — the AirGap Wallet, gives you a portfolio overview and initiates and broadcasts transactions for the Vault to sign offline.
Transactions are signed seamlessly without use of cables, thanks to verifiable QR-codes.
